    This calculation applies the same rule as the European Commission’s short-stay calculator and is tested against the examples in its manual. At the border, the border guard decides; days on a long-stay visa or residence permit don’t count.

    How the 90/180 rule counts.

    Entry and exit days count

    Even a day you arrive in the morning and leave at night is 1 day. In on 1 June and out on 14 June is 14 days.

    The 180 days roll

    For every day, look back 180 days including that day. Not a calendar year, not from your first entry: a new window every day.

    One pool for all countries

    All days in Schengen countries add up. Cyprus and Ireland don’t count; days in Bulgaria and Romania count from 31 March 2024.

    Your visa is a limit too

    The duration of stay and validity dates on your visa sticker are limits of their own. This calculator only works out the 90/180 rule.

    Frequently asked questions.

    When can I go back after using all 90 days?

    A day comes back when your oldest counted day leaves the 180-day window. The calculator shows both when your next day comes back and the first day you can use all 90 days again.

    My multiple-entry visa is valid for a year. Can I stay all year?

    No. The 90/180 rule applies throughout the visa’s validity. A one-year visa means you can enter and leave many times within that year.

    I have a residence permit. Do my days count?

    Days in the country that issued your residence permit or long-stay (D) visa don’t count towards 90/180. Short stays in other Schengen countries have their own rules; if you’re unsure, check that country’s official source.

    Is the result official?

    No. Viyu is an independent private company. The calculation applies the EU rule and the European Commission calculator’s method; at the border, the relevant authorities decide.
